New Activboard in Room 3

The old whiteboard was taken down in preparation for the new..... Activboard!  Yippee!

The new equipment lying on the floor with kids all around!

The technicians busy installing our new board!

Our board is up and running!
On Thursday the 15th of March Room 3 had installed their new Activboard!  Yippee!  We are smart and clever in Room 3 and this new tool will add to our learning capabilities!  We are learning how to use the board constantly and teaching Mrs M lots of things as we go!  Some of the things we are doing on the board already are playing hangman, dice and spelling games, handwriting and daily attendance flipcharts.  Ask your child about the Activboard and see what they can tell you!

When Mrs M came to school the day after the new Activboard had been installed.... she couldn't turn it on!  Oh gosh.....  Don't worry Mrs M, the kids will help you!

Visit from Mr Lawlor the "Bee Keeper"

On the 19th of March we had a visit from a 'Bee Keeper', Mr Lawlor.  Mr Lawlor spoke to us about amazing bees!  He brought in a plastic and wooden replica bee hive buzzing with bees for us to see!  We have been lucky enough to be able to keep it in our classroom for a few days.
The Beehive we have had in our class!
We have been watching the bees busy at work in the classroom.  They are amazing creatures.  Mr Lawlor told us lots of facts about bees.  Here is some that we were able to remember...

-The Queen bee can lay 2000 eggs per day!
-The worker bees are female and they do all the work.  They clean, feed the Queen, collect the pollen, make the wax hexagons that make up the hive and guard the hive!  They also carry the dead bees away and drop them away from the hive!  Gosh those female bees work hard..... Sound familiar!
-The drones are the male bees and they have one job to do.  When they are no longer needed, the female bees push them out of the hive!
-The Queen bee has a smell significant to her hive.  If she is happy and healthy she produces alot of smell.  If something is wrong her smell becomes faint and the hive goes into panic!  They then begin to nurture a new Queen as they instinctly know something is wrong!
-Bees have an extremely important job to do.  They collect pollen but they also spread it which allows flowers to be pollinated.  If there were no bees we would not have fruit and vegetables!  They also make honey which is very good for us.

And lastly, the fact that all the children could remember... When the bees need to poo they fly away from the hive and let it go!  Look out below!

Here is a frame that goes into the bee hive.

Here is a junior bee keeper suit!

Here is Mr Lawlor training a junior bee keeper!

The bees have made hexagon shaped wax cavities!
Mr Lawlor done a fantastic job talking to us in a way we could easily understand.  He brought in lots of things to show us to help our understanding.

We have written reports on bees since Mr Lawlor visited us.  We started with a title, then wrote how bees help us.  We finished with a description of bees.  Thanks Mr Lawlor!  We have loved having the bees in Room 3!

'P' day party fun and food!

Blowing bubbles for them to be 'popped!'
After the children had a play at the playground the 'P' party fun
continued.  We pulled 'partypoppers' and popped bubbles!  When the children were 'pooped' from all the 'P' fun we decided to have a drink of water from paper cups and some 'P' snacks.  Thanks to the Mothers who provided the 'P' food snacks.  We had pretzels, pinwheels, pineapple, popcorn and the pikelets we have made earlier!  Mrs M brought some pineapple lumps and pebbles!

The 'P' day party continued on for the rest of the day.  After the classroom 'P' activities we headed to the park to have a picnic.  We walked through Bannerman Park to the playground.  On the way we spotted a plane with a propeller and a putrid pond.  There are 'P' things everywhere!  Enjoy the photos of us playing at the playground!

"P" Day - Whole class reward

As a reward for good behaviour Rooms 3 and 1 celebrated with a "P" day on Friday the 9th of March.  Here are some of the things we did...

P WORD BRAINSTORM
Everyone brought along something starting with the letter 'P' and shared this with the other children.  We had many different things like pigs, pirates, pavlovas and plants.  We did a whole class brainstorm and wrote up the wonderful 'P' vocabularly on the board.  Preston brought a phone and we discussed the interesting 'fuh' sound that 'ph' makes!

PIKELETS

"Shaking up the pikelet mix"
We mixed up instant pikelet mix and poured them into the pan.  The children were interested as to why there were bubbles in the cooked pikelets.  Mrs Hargest explained that the bubbles was the oxygen in the mixture.  Mrs M cooked the pikelets perfectly.
