Crazy Bikes! 19/6/12

As part of our Term 2 Inquiry on Simple machines we enjoyed a visit from the Bikes 4 Fun crew!  We had the best day ever!  Bikes 4 Fun is a group of guys that have a huge selection of weird and wacky bikes to ride.  There are lawnmower bikes, tandem bikes, squirting water bikes, humungous or tiny bikes.  They have something for everyone!  The day was absolutely freezing but that did not stop the hearty Room 3 kids.  They braved the cold weather and spent over an hour on the crazy bikes.  After we warmed up we wrote about the experience.  Enjoy the photos and some stories!

At the crazy bikes I went on the squirting water one and I bet Mrs M on the black and red scooter.  On the little bike I did a skid!  By Preston

I played on a funny scooter, but it was fast.  I liked it and another class was there and it was Room 8.  By Bre

I had an awesome time and it was super.  The crazy bikes came to Gore Main School.  By Jodi

Yummy wheels and axles

Our 'simple machine' study is continuing over Term 2.  We have learnt that the 6 simple machines are: Screws, pulleys, a wedge, levers, inclined planes and wheels and axles.  We have enjoyed looking around at our environment and discovering that these simple machines are everywhere making our life easier.  They are helping us by holding things together, making sure we can open doors, ensuring we can walk up hills easily, giving us cutting activities, pulling our blinds up and getting us to school (car, scooter or bike).  SIMPLE MACHINES ARE AMAZING!

Check out some of our videos of the children creating their own axle with 'edible' wheels!  We wish all simple machines were made of food!

'Simple machine' learning stations with Room 1

On Tuesday the 5th of May we had a visit from Room 1 and Mrs Hargest.  We had lots of activities going on in the classroom that involved all 6 simple machines!  The Room 3 children all enjoyed mixing and helping the Room 1 children.  The Room 1 children certainly knew a lot about simple machines!  They enjoyed helping Room 3 as well!  Take a look at some of the activities that we were doing to enrich our Simple Machines study.
