Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everybody!

From all of Room 3

End of year celebrations!

To celebrate a fantastic year of learning in Room 3 we had a series of great events over the last week.  We started the week off with a visit from the man in red, Santa Claus!  He arrived by Fire Engine.  It was absolutely fantastic.  The children were so excited!  Santa gave everybody a present each and then we had an ice block.  What a great start to the fun week!

Santa has a big sack of presents for the good children in the Junior Rooms!

Ho ho ho!  Merry Christmas Junior children!

Come up and see Santa for your present

You have been a good girl this year... she sure has been!

After Santa came to visit us we had a fantastic session of singing with Mrs Chamberlain.  She brought her guitar and musical instruments for everybody.  We sang Christmas carols and other popular Nursery rhymes.  It was lots of fun.

The next day we all went swimming to the Gore Pool.  We had an inflatable turtle that we could jump on and the water spouts were going.  It was terrific!  We have had some wonderful celebrations to end the year!

Helicopter Visit

On Friday the 30th of August we had Grant Goatley from "Deep South Helicopters" fly in his helicopter!  He landed in the Gore Main School domain across the road from the school.  It was amazing!  The children were so excited and hopefully this has inspired some future careers in aviation like pilots, mechanics, air-controllers etc.  We were so lucky to have this activity for our children and we would like to thank Grant Goatley for giving up his time and the cost involved to him!  AWESOME!

Makayla and Kazia: The Fashion Queens

Makayla and Kazia were a part of the Term 2 Smarts group that designed clothes out of recyclable materials.  They worked with older students who supported them.  They confidently wore the creations in front of a packed assembly.  They look absolutely amazing and they should be proud of their achievement!
What beautiful creations out of recyclable material Makayla and Kazia

Josh made it to the final of the Gore Main School Talent Quest!  He got second place in the Junior drama section for his amazing recital of the poem "The Ning Nang Nong".  Congratulations Josh, you did an amazing job!  We were all so proud of you in Room 3!  Bet your Mum and Dad were proud too!
Well done Josh, you are so talented!

Charlee's Rabbit and George's Fish

We have regular oral language in Room 3.  One on the children's favourite things is to speak to the 'whole class' on a topic of their choice.  When the children do their talk they work hard to speak clearly with good volume.  They learn to put expression into their voices and to stand with good posture.  The children have improved so much in their ability to present to a bigger audience!  The following clips are from two children who spoke about their pets.  The first clip is about a rabbit and the second is about fish.  Enjoy!

Making chocolate crackles

Today we made chocolate crackles.  Along the way we learnt that 1/2 a cup and 1/2 a cup make a whole cup!  We measured one cup of rice bubbles into our containers and used a desert spoon to put cocoa, icing sugar and coconut into our container.  We enjoyed mixing and filling our patty cases.  We really enjoyed EATING our chocolate crackles!  Baking is fun!

Fun Day!!

We filled the golf-ball jar in Room 3 so as a reward we were allowed a fun day!  The day started off with some games of musical chairs and pass-the-parcel.  We all got a glow stick and some bubbles out of the pass-the-parcel!  Mrs M left us to blow bubbles and wave around the glow sticks and she went and cooked up some popcorn for us to watch some of The Lorax.  Mrs M had also provided some other food and fizzy so we had a little picnic in the classroom.  After that we went down to the hall to have an impromptu concert with the microphone.  We enjoyed singing and telling jokes in front of every one and every body liked the sound of their own voice when they used the microphone!  When we had finished the little concert we played some more games in the class and then it was time for lunch!  After lunch we had SMARTS.  We enjoyed our fun day!  We will try to fill that golf-ball jar again!  Check out some photos from our fun day!
Here we are with our bubbles and glow sticks!  Awesome!

Eating popcorn, chips and fruit kebabs!

This is good Mrs M!

Put the Lorax on now Mrs M while we are having our small picnic!

Working Together!

In Room 3 we really try hard to work together to solve problems or to achieve good results.  We are getting better at sharing pens and resources when we are together in a group.  We are learning to take turns at things so it is fair.  We all want to be the leader but we are beginning to understand that it is important to share the jobs around as it makes it a better place with less conflict if we do this.  Here we are in small groups working together by sharing and taking turns to solve some quiz questions that Mrs M asked...
Hard at work - Trying to solve the quiz question

We are tired Mrs M...

I think this everybody.  What do you think?

We are finished Mrs M..... because we worked together to solve the problem!

We are working hard here!

Junior Sharing Time

Today (4th July 2013) Rooms 1,2,3 and 6 at Gore Main School had a Junior Sharing Time.  It was fantastic for all the Junior classrooms to come together and celebrate their learning.  Well done to the Room 1 children who shared their favourite thing, Room 2 who showed some ocean art and drama about the right thing to do in the ocean (ie take only what you need) and Room 6 who sang "Cheeky little fantail".  Room 3 performed a song called "Summer Jive".  We thought by performing this it may persuade the sun to come out!  The video went for too long so it was difficult to save but check out some photos!

Term 2 Inquiry "Caring for our Environment"

Today we looked at what can happen if people just throw rubbish around.  We looked at some graphic pictures of animals swimming and living in pollution.  We were shocked at how people can be so lazy and not put their rubbish in the right place.  We got into groups of 3 or 4 children and made little skits to show what can happen when people litter.  We had a range of characters in our skits and the children did a very good job, particularly because it was impromptu!  Check out our video skits on caring for our environment!

On the back of the ute!

Jason (Kaine's Dad) came to visit us with some black furry friends on the back of his ute!  Two beautiful dogs!  It was great fun patting them and they were very excited to see us!  We enjoyed hearing about all the exciting things that Jason does with his dogs, duck shooting, rabbit hunting etc.  Here is a photo!

Milk for Schools

We now have milk for schools in at Gore Main School.  The children are enjoying slurping away at their milk each day.  Mrs M drunk a whole milk carton in 28 seconds so she could show the children how to fold a carton for recycling!  As part of the milk for schools launch we had a visit from the a milk tanker and driver Trevor McGregor!  He talked about how the milk gets from the cow into the milk carton.  This was very educational!  Some people did not know that when the milk from the farm gets taken to Edendale it gets made into milk powder and then from there gets made into the milk we have on our shelves!  We were able to have a good look around the milk tanker and even got to sit in it!  Here are our photos!
