On the back of the ute!
Jason (Kaine's Dad) came to visit us with some black furry friends on the back of his ute! Two beautiful dogs! It was great fun patting them and they were very excited to see us! We enjoyed hearing about all the exciting things that Jason does with his dogs, duck shooting, rabbit hunting etc. Here is a photo!
Milk for Schools
We now have milk for schools in at Gore Main School. The children are enjoying slurping away at their milk each day. Mrs M drunk a whole milk carton in 28 seconds so she could show the children how to fold a carton for recycling! As part of the milk for schools launch we had a visit from the a milk tanker and driver Trevor McGregor! He talked about how the milk gets from the cow into the milk carton. This was very educational! Some people did not know that when the milk from the farm gets taken to Edendale it gets made into milk powder and then from there gets made into the milk we have on our shelves! We were able to have a good look around the milk tanker and even got to sit in it! Here are our photos!
Kaine and the pigeon
Room 3 had a visit from Kaine's pigeon today (Thursday 30th May). The pigeon's name is Tweet. He was very well behaved and he chose people for jobs by looking at them or nodding their head at them! Kaine explained how he found Tweet when he was a little chick in a shearing shed and how he just put him in his Dad's car to take home! We were also lucky enough to have Kaine's dad Jason come in and tell us lots of facts about pigeons. We didn't know that pigeons could fly for days! We enjoyed looking at the beautiful colour of the pigeon and how it changed in the light! We were all able to have a hold of the pigeon! Check out our photos and videos of the event!

Mahe Drysdale "Olympic Gold Medallist"
On Friday the 24th of May Gore Main School had the privilege of entertaining "Mahe Drysdale' and listening to him speak. The Kapa Haka group welcomed Mahe with a powhiri and a haka as he entered the school. It was a powerful entry! We sang the National anthem and the Gore Main School song for Mahe. He enjoyed our singing and the meaning behind our school song. We believe children should never give up on their dreams and that they should strive to be the best that they can. When we listened to Mahe speak we realised that he has achieved what he has because of this attitude. Mahe believes that we should all be "reaching for the stars". Mahe spoke very clearly and he was funny and easy to understand. The whole crowd was entertained and inspired. A highlight was when Mahe pulled out his beautiful gold medal that he won at the Olympics. The School Council led the assembly very competently and the day was an absolute success. Congratulations to all those involved. What an inspiration Mahe Drysdale is! Check out our photos!

Rosie the Cow
This week we had a visit from 'Rosie the Cow'. Rosie and her friends performed a skit to educate the children at Gore Main School about life on a dairy farm, milk and shared facts about cows. This was a great insight into the Dairy Industry and it was a fantastic to have this before the "Milk for Schools" programme begins shortly in some schools around Southland. Thanks Rosie the Cow!

On your marks... get set... GO!
Gore Main School held their cross-country on Tuesday the 13th of May. It was a fantastic balmy but windy day and the children enjoyed the optimum weather to run in! The Room 3 children ran amazingly and it was so great to see some of them placed in the 'top 6' for their year level. WAHOO! Check out the photos!
